Glasgow Caledonian University – English Language Requirements

GCU regularly reviews English Language requirements to ensure they are set at the correct levels and to preserve quality in terms of student outcomes. We have made some changes to our English Language requirements that come into effect for applicants to courses from September 2024 intake.

Removal of Medium of Instructions (MOI):
GCU will no longer consider Medium of Instructions (MOI) as an acceptable criterion for assessing English language proficiency.

Removal of Duolingo:
GCU will no longer consider Duolingo as an acceptable criterion for assessing English language proficiency.

Further to these changes we are expanding our list of acceptable English Language tests.

The following tests have been added to the approved list for GCU:

  • PTE Online,
  • LanguageCert Academic,
  • Oxford ELLT,
  • TOEFL Home Edition,
  • Password Skills Plus Language Test

You can find details of approved tests which are regularly updated on the English Language requirements page on our website.

Prospective students must meet GCU’s revised English language requirements, which are outlined in detail on the English language requirements page on our website. These changes highlight GCU’s commitment to maintaining high standards of English language proficiency, ensuring that students are well-equipped for success in their academic journey. Please encourage students to review the required English language documentation outlined on our dedicated English Language requirements page.
