Bournemouth University – update

Free English language test offer
A reminder that if your postgraduate applicant needs to meet our English language entry requirement for September 2024 entry, we will offer them one free English language test to help them fulfil that condition. The applicant must hold an offer that is conditional on meeting our English language entry requirements and should have accepted that offer by 30 April 2024 to be eligible.   To take the offer, applicants will need to make a request by completing this form. Once verified, they will receive a test code to book one of the following online tests (subject to availability):   KITE (Kaplan International Tools for English) ELLT (Oxford International English Language Level Test)   For any new applicants who have already taken an English language test or have booked a test but have not yet taken it, BU will not reimburse the cost in these scenarios. However, if they take another attempt to meet our entry requirement, they can request a free test.   Please pass on the good news to all eligible BU applicants.

Applications, deposits and CASWe are pleased to let you know that application turnaround times have decreased significantly since last year. Any delay in processing times will normally be because an application needs to be reviewed by its course leader or if it is incomplete.   We will start issuing CAS from 15 April, so please remind your unconditional offer holders to plan for their deposit payment. They must also log in to myHub and complete any outstanding actions such as uploading their academic references or completing the criminal convictions declaration for their CAS to be issued without delay.

Students are expected to be on campus in time for when their course starts. We have not been notified of any delays in visa processing times so far, but according to previous years, delays can be expected from July onwards. So, please encourage your students to complete their pending myhub actions and pay their deposit before the normal June deposit deadline, so that their CAS can be issued earlier to apply for their visas.
Early Clearing
For your awareness only at this stage, early Clearing will open on 2 July. This early Clearing phase will be particularly important for students who wish to study an undergraduate course but are not able to submit their application by the 30 June deadline.    More information will follow nearer the time but please remember that early Clearing will be the final option for any of your undergraduate applicants to secure a place at BU. Prior to the deadline of 30 June, your students can continue to submit their undergraduate applications via UCAS.
We have noticed that some students are living outside of Bournemouth and therefore struggle to attend their seminars. Please make sure that students are researching their accommodation options as soon as they have made their decision to attend BU and received their offer letter. Students need to be in Bournemouth to be able to attend their course.   BU provides a range of accommodation conveniently located close to our campuses, near supermarkets and with great public transport for easy commuting. The accommodation portal is now open for students who have received either a conditional or unconditional offer to register their interest. Alternatively, there are many local private lettings agencies that also advertise suitable accommodation year-round which students can research early on.
Enhanced career prospects for BU students
We are proud to say that over 90% of both our undergraduate and postgraduate students are in employment or further study within 15 months after graduating from university *. We continue to work and partner with industry leaders and local businesses to provide and array of opportunities for our students to develop their employability skills and support them with their work placement and job searches.    Our long-standing relationship with AFC Bournemouth, for example, has allowed our students to enhance their career prospects by providing valuable placements within the club’s media and marketing teams, as well as commercial, ticketing and undertaking roles with the women’s and girls’ team.
